LI HEAP

Low-Income Energy Assistance Program

The fiscal year 2009 allocation for the Wiyot Tribe for LIHEAP funds is $19,793.81. This funding is to provide assistance to low-income households in meeting their home energy costs, particularly those with the lowest incomes and the highest energy needs. The Wiyot Tribe identifies and prioritizes tribal members giving highest priority to the elders, disabled, and families with young children. The benefit per household is up to a maximun of $600.00 per fiscal year. The LIHEAP fiscal year is October 1st, 2008 through September 30th, 2009. There has been some discussion from the funding agent that this amount per household may be increased this year. If that does occur a notice will go out in the newsletter. As of March 31, 2009 $13,394.75 has been paid to energy vendors on behalf of tribal member households.

LI HEAP is assistance with utilities. Whether it is the need for help paying an electric bill or getting propane to fill your existing tank or wood for your wood stove. There are limited funds available once a year and you must apply by application submission. Please visit the Tribal Office and speak with Michelle Vassel, Social Service Director, for the application and interview for LI HEAP.
